Mindfulness-based approaches are used in a variety of educational, healthcare, workplace and community settings and have been studied across different stages of life, including childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Research has explored their potential role in supporting wellbeing and in areas such as stress, anxiety, sleep, persistent pain and psychological distress, as well as supporting people living with cancer and other health conditions. Evidence varies depending on the programme, population and intended outcome.
MBSR - Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
8-week mindfulness course founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, USA. This program curriculum is an experiential introduction to mindfulness concepts and practice. All other mindfulness programs stem from this original structure of learning about the mind/body connections for health and well-being.
MBCT - Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy
8-week mindfulness course designed for participants to prevent the relapse of depression. Founded by John Teasdale, Zindel Segal and Mark Williams in the UK. This program combines elements of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and is particularly suitable for participants with depressive moods, anxiety and ruminative thought processing.
MBCT-Ca - Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer
Designed by the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation for people affected by cancer, this eight-week MBCT-Ca programme offers practical mindfulness practices to help participants work with stress, anxiety and difficult emotions that can arise around diagnosis and treatment. It provides a supportive space to develop greater awareness, self-kindness and steadiness, and to find ways of bringing mindfulness into everyday life during what can be a challenging time.
Method Eline Snel
8-10 week mindfulness courses founded by Eline Snel in the Netherlands. Mindfulness trainings for ages ranging from 4 to 19 that help students become aware of their inner-world, without having to make any immediate judgements about what they (or others) think, feel or experience. They learn to deal with calm and turmoil when these present themselves.
Mindful Eating
A practical introduction to bringing awareness to how and why we eat. This programme explores our relationship with food and habits, offering conscious choices without diets or guilt.
MiSP - Mindfulness in Schools Project: dot b, paws .b, .b Foundations)
These complementary curricula were founded in the UK for school communities to learn about and experience the benefits of mindfulness practices in an educational setting: Evidence-based, practices for stopping & noticing, training attention & awareness, supporting mental health in developing minds.
mPEAK - (Mindful Performance Enhancement, Awareness & Knowledge)
Developed in a collaboration between UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness and USA Olympic BMX Cycling Team coaches. This 8-week or 3-day intensive mindfulness training program helps athletes, performers, individuals and business teams explore and adopt mindfulness meditation practices, neuroscience knowledge and positive psychology skills to enhance their peak performance levels, resilience, “flow”, and focus.
MBCT-L Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Life
is an 8-week mindfulness course developed by the Oxford Mindfulness Centre that offers learning of mindfulness practices and cognitive-behavioural approaches that are accessible to all. It guides participants how to apply these learnings in everyday life both to manage difficulties and also to cultivate gratitude and joy.
Peace in a Frantic World
An accessible 8-week mindfulness course based on the bestselling book Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World. It introduces simple mindfulness practices to help manage stress, improve focus and respond more skilfully to everyday challenges. Suitable for individuals and workplace teams, with no previous meditation experience needed.
Mindful Parenting
Founded by Drs. Susan Bögels & Kathleen Restifo in the Netherlands, 8-11 week course for mindful parenting: exploring topics of dealing with stressful situations, conflict and guilt, and learning to move from responding rather than reacting in a conscious, unbiased manner.
Introducing Mindfulness
A three-week introduction to mindfulness, offering simple, practical practices to help you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings and everyday experiences. You’ll learn a range of mindfulness practices and explore how they can be brought into daily life to support greater calm, clarity and wellbeing.
